planning for New-Brunswick

the time has finally come, summer around the corner, where I get to plan my favorite week of the year: my vacation back home to New-Brunswick. hoping for the last week of august, a time for both the boyfriend and I to venture (among many other places) to the sights in the pics below. I am really excited about taking this trip, there is just something about that drive down, going to my camp (cottage in woods we call "camp"), swimming in the ocean, and seeing old friends that cannot be traded for any feeling in the world. special addition this summer: driving the extra hour and making it to PEI, have not been there since I was 13 years old.

boy who's got me smiling

this is Matt. he makes me smile. we've only just met, and already he is my most favorite boy. he is the first person I talk to every morning when I wake up, and the last every night before I go to sleep. we hold hands when we go places, and we cuddle while listening to music from his wicked record collection. he is also absolutely gorgeous. I could not ask for more, I have found the sweetest guy in the world.

scientology fails, and today so does Concordia

who the hell at Concordia approved an exhibit on "psychiatry" funded by the church of scientology? whoever you are, you should be ashamed for allowing religious propaganda in an educational institution.

I am livid, absolutely appalled at the inaccurate depiction of the history of psychology and psychiatry that was presented today. yes, there was factual information on those billboards, however what was missing was the truth behind those facts. reputable psychiatrists, psychologists, and scientists from past and current decades were miss-quoted; Wundt must be rolling over in his grave as we speak.

statistics on medical atrocities were presented in a suggesting manner against the medical field of psychiatry as a whole; though psychology and psychiatry do have a VERY dark passed and continue to make mistakes in this day and age, these mistakes cannot be generalized to an entire field which has as its aim to aid people with mental illness. no, we cannot deny the days of asylums, lobotomies, and eugenics, however we also have NO RIGHT to discredit and shame those whom in the same field fought to abolish these injustices and contributed in making the field what it is today, an already much more healthy, ethical and humanitarian movement.

though there are two very different sides to this argument, and it is obvious which one of them I am on, if I have been taught one thing throughout my educational career it is this: think critically, and never present information in a biased manner. so congrats scientologists, you have succeeded in half of the feat, you are quite the critical little buggers, however you unfortunately loose all credibility in my eyes because you fight like a selfish bratty child who only knows how to win by screaming the loudest.

as for Concorida, you I am simply disappointed in. next time around, dig a little deeper and at least find out who is funding the project, ok? and when you find out it is a religious and biased organization, politely explain to them that this is an educational institution who has as its aim to educate people through the means of presenting them with ALL factual information available, in order for them to make up their own mind about the issue at hand. thanks.

nothing like fam and friends

safe to say it was a pretty good night when the result is getting wasted with my little sister (wasted faces just below to prove it) and seeing Stef get her own personal dance on stage at a strip club. hopefully this does not get flagged down by blogger, don't know if I am breaking any rules here? its not like we see titties... not even side boob. ps my sister hates this photo of herself so I thought I'd mention when she's not making wasted faces she is such a doll, total babe, clearly inherited the good genes in our fam.

evening class

anything to not pay attention during our 2 1/2 hour evening class with no breaks. for anyone who is confused, this is what is happening: Dave, Natasha and I are sitting in the front row, having a joint msn convo, taking random photobooth pics... kinda following the power point lecture from time to time. but mostly just msn'ing, despite being seated one beside the other. attention span running on low due to it being the last class of the semester.

exotic dream

ok so even though if I had the choice to travel any place in the world, I would choose Europe or South America or Australia and do the back-pack thing... right now I am daydreaming of sitting my fat butt on an exotic beach. Montreal has been nothing but bad news weather lately, cold raining, and yes even snowing what the hell. andd I really am in no mood for studying or working. so, could someone just bring me some place exotic? please and thank you.

uppp date

in light of a conversation I had earlier tonight, I have decided to make a post with somewhat more content, and a little less impersonal.

funny story, one of our roommates peaced out in the middle of the night without paying rent for april. luckily we knew he was leaving and we had someone lined up for a couple of weeks from now, but still, he left us with the difference to pay on all the bills and half of his rent for april. shitty d00d.

and umm, only about one week of classes left. one paper. 3 exams. so I have survived my second year of university: success! I have also managed to find an amazing supervisor for my honours thesis next year, the guy has been in TIME MAGAZINE, TWICE! he is also currently my new boss, as he is the one who hired me to be a research assistant in his lab. however I am still putting in a few hours at the YMCA here and there; between the kids and the staff, the Y has become my second home.

on another note, other than my coo coo chaotic family situation, lately I find myself bound for the posi side of things. I have a lot to be thankful for, especially when I think about the amazing friends that I have in my life. my friends have taught me something this year: its not just about who will be there when you need them, but its about who is there even when you don't need them. ok, so it sounds a bit odd, but what I mean to say is that your real friends are those people who spend time with you just because, they are the people who enjoy your company and give a shit about your boring rants, they are the ones you make dinner and watch movies with, and they call you just to say hi, they are the ones you laugh with (corny, I know), and the ones you can sit around with doing nothing really other than just hang. Oh, and of course, they are someone you can pick your nose with! Obviously a friend is also someone who is there when you need them most, but a real friend is someone who is there even on the days you're just sitting around with a smile on your face. seems simple enough, but somehow I have only come to truly grasp this concept now, and for this I thank all of you who have been that real friend to me, thank you for enjoying my company.

And a very special thanks to this lady here in the photo with me, she is the most wonderful of friends, I love her to pieces. I also think she is absolutely beautiful.
