thesis writing in ottawa

nothin like the old BB to photo document what you are up to. went to ottawa this weekend to a) present at a conference and b) hang at Staci's parents place, as we both had tons of hw to do and decided to stay in hiding to get it done. got the first draft of my thesis over with, weee! we also ate tons of good food, watched movies, made a fruitful village trip (got the most incredible shoes), found daquaris in a pouch at the LCBO... overall rad weekend. oh and that little doggy, that's Brody, he makes for very good company.

skool sux
here is what I do at school (among papers, exams, thesis, reading etc) jusssst incase you were wondering:
why do I put myself through this you might ask? good question. or maybe you do not ask yourself this. either way. fingers crossed one day I actually get to call myself a psychologist, or something along those lines.
cannot wait for this semester to be over, it is truly getting the better of me. and after this, I will only be 4 electives short of obtaining my degree, FINALLY.
all I pray for is time to eat and sleep regularly, and maybe a little jogging in between.
research presentation for seminar class. on what? how I think it is pretty much ridiculous that they are considering removing Asperger's disorder from the new DMS-V to be released in 2013.
I prepared this. it is going to be printed on 3.5 x 3 feet poster. I am being sent by my supervisor to present my research at a conference in ottawa this friday. don't even get a grade or credit for this or nothin'. but it's good for the grad school app, so I hear.

this is my "thesis presentation". another seminar presentation where I get the pleasure of being drilled by my prof, TA and fellow honours classmates about my research.

who needs a man, anyway
went to see Joanna Newsom tonight; I must say she is a pretty incredible lady. I have been feeling quite down lately, but watching her play really had its way of lifting up my spirits.
ps: even though I got dumped last week, I still got As on both of my midterms. take that, wretched universe.

on your own
"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go." -Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You'll Go

perfect cure
"So is that what you call a getaway?
Tell me what you got away with
Cause I've seen more spine on jellyfish
I've seen more guts on eleven-year-old kids
Have another drink and drive yourself home
I hope there's ice on all the roads
And you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt
and again when your head goes through the windshield
Is that what you call tact?
You're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back
So let's end this call and end this conversation
And is that what you call a getaway?
Tell me what you got away with
Cause you left the frays from the ties you severed
when you say "best friends" means friends forever"
-Brand New, Seventy Times Seven
Singing my heart and lungs out to this part of the song never seizes to be the perfect cure, for just about anything and everything. Especially when angry and driving, taking out my aggression by speedin just enough and getting where I need to go real fast. Or when I am about to cry myself to sleep listening to my ipod on shuffle, and it magically comes on, and just pumps me up enough to be like as if I was about to shed a tear over this lame shit. pff.

can't make up my mind as to how I feel about this. mostly on the "this is strange" side, but hey, who am I to judge.

down with fb up with the blog
I am attempting to deactivate my facebook for a while. I feel like it just blurrs my time for no reason, like just sucks me in and feeds me an immense array of useless and misinterpreted information all while providing me with very little sense of fulfillment. instead I will write on this thing, maybe. at least today I am. I'll miss the headsup on events though, so hopefully my friends will keep me up to date. either way the following 6weeks of my life are going to be complete hell with little time to socialize: exams, major presentations, the preparation for a conference, the finalizing of my thesis paper. I am incredibly sick of school at this point, and am having so much trouble finding the courage to trek through it. every lecture, seminar and colloquia just seems to be getting longer and longer, and the end further and further away.
my being discouraged with school is also much like a paradox for my life right now. I don't know which came first, being discouraged with life or with school, or whether one influenced the occurrence of the other, but I am feeling terribly at a loss lately, and generally just lost. is this too personal?

never blog
I miss Moncton, a lot, and the ocean, always. went out east at the end of the summer, seeing all my old friends was the best. they are always in my heart, but having them in my arms was nice too.
now it is back to school, working on my honours thesis! I am knee deep in research, formulating hypotheses and research questions, testing participants and putting my theory (also known as my supervisor's theory) to the test. fingers crossed for significant results.

hello internet
I went to see Blink182 last friday, I loved every second of it. I danced and sang my heart out until the very last song. I am convinced I had the best seats in the place... right in the Canadians bench, just above the kids with floor tickets (I was also aloud on the floor). it was a pretty emotional time in some ways, I was very nostalgic; Blink182 played a very crucial role in my life during my tween years.
other than that, things are swell. the summer has been filled with road trips and shows and fun summer adventures with friends new and old, and for once I am entering the month of august without wondering where summer went.
the new apartment finally feels like home! I have done a lot of decorating, it is in the perfect location, and living with Sean is incredible. we just seem to be on the same page when it comes to living stuff, and everything falls perfectly into place. we have our own mini family here in some ways, between our late night chats, sharing of snacks, and "how was your day?"s.
for the curious souls, Matt and I faced some turbulent times. the internet must have told you our relationship status, but seems we are truly somewhere in between. we'll be heading to New Brunswick together in a couple of weeks, and seems the appropriate thing to say is that we are "seeing" each other, but not a couple. in a nut shell.. we'll see. I think we are just trying our best to not hurt one another.
on another note, Emma and I went to Wolfe Island last saturday to hang with Attack in Black (they were playing at the Wolfe Island music festival). we got free food, and got to ride the ferry for free, and saw some pretty good bands. it was good to get away from the city, even if just for a little bit. it was very pretty there.
